Welcome back! I am very excited about this year! I will continue to see most of my students from last year. However, Chalkville has a new part-time speech/language pathologist, in addition to Miss Sprayberry and me, and she will be taking some of our students. This will help us out tremendously with our large caseloads.
Please work with your child at home. Your child’s speech and language skills require practice. They will benefit from the extra time spent practicing at home. A website that may be helpful to you for speech and language information is www.asha.org.
A little information about me and speech/language therapy……
· I am starting my sixth year here at Chalkville Elementary.
· My room is in the main hallway near the cafeteria.
· Speech/language therapy generally lasts 20-30 minutes and meets 2-3 times per week (as specified in your child’s IEP).
· I provide services to students who meet the criteria to receive exceptional education services as outlined in the Alabama Administrative Code.
· Once a student qualifies to receive exceptional education services, students may receive speech/language therapy for articulation (speech), receptive/expressive language, fluency (stuttering), and voice disorders.
Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions or information that you may have. My e-mail address is listed at the top of the screen. This is probably the fastest and easiest way to contact me. Of course, you may call me at the school (Chalkville Elementary – 379-2950). However, it is not always easy for me to get to the phone. You may also send a note with your child. Any of these methods are great for communicating between school and home.
When it is time to set up a meeting, I will send home a Notice of Proposed Meeting. Please check if you will be able to come to the meeting at the specified time and sign and date the form. Send it back to me ASAP. I will see you at the listed date and time, which is listed at the top of the form, if you check that you can meet. If needed, I can reschedule the meeting. Finally, if you are unable to meet, please check the 3rd box. In this instance, we will hold the meeting without you and send home any paperwork that you need to sign/review.
