·        Students learn in different ways and should be provided with a variety of instructional approaches.

·        Positive relationships and a safe, physically comfortable environment foster mutual respect between students and staff and enhance a student’s self esteem.

·        Cultural diversity promotes students’ understanding of different peoples and cultures.

·        Teachers, administrators, parents, and the community share responsibility for advancing student learning and developing programs that promote character education, which produces responsible citizens.

·        The commitment to continuous improvement is imperative for our school to produce students who are confident, self-directed, life-long learners.

SAFETY MISSION

Chalkville Elementary School is committed to providing a safe environment in which students can focus on learning to their fullest potential.  Chalkville Elementary has developed a Crisis Management Plan which focuses on intervention/prevention and emergency preparedness planning and response.  This plan is designed to meet all requirements of the Alabama State Department of Education Comprehensive School Safety Plan.

In the event of an emergency and to ensure the safety of every student, the parents and guardians are asked to follow these guidelines:

·        Do not telephone the school.  The phones will be needed to make calls to emergency, news, and support services.

·        Parents are asked to follow the dismissal rules and guidelines that will be in place in the event of an emergency.  Do not attempt to remove your child from their classroom.  We must be able to account for each student and who they are released to.  Each emergency situation is different and the dismissal procedures will vary.

·        It is possible that your child will be evacuated to an offsite destination for parent pick up.  Parents will be notified through the media, website, or sign postings at school.  Plans for evacuation are as follows:

o       1st Clay Chalkville Middle School

o       2nd In the event that the road to CCMS is blocked, we will evacuate to Hewitt Trussville High School

o       If we must conduct a walking evacuation, K-2 students will be evacuated to Springville Road Community Church and 3-5 to Chalkville Baptist church

·        Students will only be permitted to leave with the parent of guardian listed on the registration sheet.  Parents need to update the information in our records if there are changes to this information during the year.

·        In the event of a non-critical event and school must be dismissed early, every effort will be made to notify the parents through the media.
