100 Ways for Parents to Be Involved in Their Child's Education

1. Give positive feedback and show appreciation for teachers

   and the principal.

2. Approach interactions with a positive attitude and an open

    mind.

3. Listen to others' viewpoints.

4. Share your child's strengths, talents, and interests with your

    child's teachers.

5. Share expectations and set goals together for your child.

6. Make appointments as needed to discuss your child's

   progress or concerns.

7. Attend parent-teacher conferences with specific questions

    you want to ask.

8. Indicate the best way to give you information (phone, e-mail,

    notes, etc.)

9. Understand and reinforce school rules and expectations at

    home.

10. Participate in informal opportunities to talk with and get

     to know school staff and educators.

Parental involvement means the participation

of parents in regular, two-way, and

meaningful communication involving

student academic learning and other

school activities, including ensuring—

(A)    that parents play an integral role in

assisting their child’s learning;

(B)    that parents are encouraged to be actively

involved in their child’s education at school;

(C)    that parents are full partners in their child’s

education and are included, as appropriate, in

decision-making and on advisory committees to

assist in the education of their child;

(D)    the carrying out of other activities, such as

those described in section 1118 of the ESEA.
