JUNA is designed to give the students a feel of the United Nations. While the program is not able to do everything the way it is done at the UN, the students acquired a better understanding of the concerns of others and a greater understanding of all peoples of the world.
The Hueytown Middle School students represented the countries of Central African Republic, Indonesia, Italy, and Spain. Each student studied the culture, religion, language, current issues, and government of the countries. The students met during school in their FACS/JUNA class and completed worksheets to further their understanding of their countries and other countries that would be attending the assembly. The students also had to dress as a person from their chosen country. Each country had to present a resolution addressing a current world issue.
