"Intellectually gifted children and youth are those who perform or who have demonstrated the potential to perform at high levels in academic or creative fields when compared with others of their age, experience, or environment. These children and youth possessing these abilities can be found in all populations, across all ecomonic strata, and in all areas of human endeavor. " Alabama State Department of Education, Chapter 290-8-9
Welcome to the Gifted Education Program of Jefferson County Board of Education. Gifted students are served through a variety of services. Kindergarten through second grade students are served in the general education classroom through collaboration of the general education teacher with the gifted teacher. Third through fifth/sixth grade students are served through pull-out services by the gifted teacher. Sixth through eighth grade students are served through one core subject class each year. High school students are served through IB school, AP courses, Honor courses, advanced classes, dual enrollment, and extracurricular activities. We offer a thematic, conceptually based curriculum with an experiential education approach. Some of our themes are represented under the Curriculum title on this web page. Please feel free to look through the information presented.
