REPLACEMENT, EXCHANGE AND ADDITION OF CLASSROOM FURNITURE

To ensure that the instructional needs of the students can be met and to best achieve the learning goals and objectives of the school system, the

Board establishes three categories for placement of classroom furniture.

The three categories are replacement, exchange and addition.

1. Replacement of classroom furniture occurs only when a piece or pieces of the classroom's present furniture has reached a deteriorated condition so as to be no longer usable. Replacement will be made subject to the constraints of the respective budget allotment and on a priority basis with the school having the oldest furniture being first in priority.

The determination of whether a classroom's furniture warrants replacement shall be made in the following manner:

The principal shall submit a written request to the Director of Storage and Distribution for an on-site inspection to evaluate the condition of the present furniture. Within ten working days of the receipt of the principal's request, the Director of Storage and Distribution shall make a written recommendation to the principal. If the recommendation is for replacement of the furniture, the principal shall then submit a request to the Director of Storage and Distribution, who will then forward the request to the Division Superintendent for Support Operations for approval and implementation.

2. Exchange of furniture occurs when the instructional needs of a classroom require changes in the style or type of furniture presently used and the present furniture's condition does not warrant replacement.

The determination of whether a classroom's furniture may be exchanged shall be determined in the following manner:

The principal shall submit a written request for exchange of furniture to the Director of Storage and Distribution to determine availability and cost. If the Director concurs with the request, it shall be forwarded to the Division Superintendent for Support Operations, whose approval shall be granted subject to funds being available for that purpose and that amount.

Addition of furniture occurs when a school has an increase in enrollment. An increase in enrollment presents the highest priority for placement of classroom furniture. Additional furniture may be new or used and the determination of its source shall be made by the Division Superintendent for Support Operations, whose approval shall be granted subject to funds available for that purpose.
