STATE CLASSROOM INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT FUNDS
MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES

State classroom instructional support funds for materials and supplies will be made available to
each teacher no later than December 1. The Board desires to make these funds available to
teachers as early in the school year as possible, preferably by the first day of school. The early
release of classroom instruction support funds - materials and supplies is contingent upon the
availability of the finance department to complete the processing of purchase orders and close the
books for the previous year's funds.

These funds may only be spent for instructional supplies or instructional equipment for
classrooms as required in Section 16-1-8.1, Code of Alabama 1975. The expenditure of these
funds and other classroom instructional support funds must be in accordance with a local school
budget developed by a budget committee and approved by a majority of the teachers voting by
secret ballot.

Teachers will have until the end of the fiscal year (September 30) to expend these funds unless an
earlier deadline is recommended and approved as part of the local school budget. The adoption
of an earlier deadline by local schools, preferably May 1 of each school year, will help to insure
that the next year's allocations can be released to teachers by the first day of school
