ATHLETIC COACHES' SUPPLEMENT
In order for a coach to qualify for a supplement, all coaching must be done outside of the regular school hours and must average at least two hours per school day. No one will be employed to coach unless he or she meets the following qualifications:
1. Possesses a teacher's certificate and a degree from an accredited college or university.
2. Participated on either a college or high school team, preferably but not necessarily in the sport(s) which he or she will coach.
Since coaches and assistant coaches are also teachers, they must meet the same requirements as other teachers. In addition, they must show ability to coach as evidenced by athletic participation and training. In order to receive coaching supplements, coaches and assistant coaches must engage in regular teaching during the regular school hours and coach after school hours.
Junior high schools (grades 7-8-9 or combinations thereof) shall be entitled to a coaching supplement(s) if actively involved in interschool athletics. Practice and games will be during nonschool hours and the minimum number of coaching supplements is as follows:
Schools with enrollment up to 300 .......one coach
Schools with enrollment of 300-600......two coaches
Schools with enrollment of 600 and above...three coaches
The minimum number of senior high school coaching supplements is based on the classification of the schools according to the Alabama High School Athletic Association and is determined as follows:
Class lA Schools ...................two coaches
Class 2A Schools ...................three coaches
Class 3A Schools ...................three coaches
Class 4A Schools ...................four coaches
Class 5A Schools ...................four coaches
Class 6A Schools ...................five coaches
