SUGGESTED PROCEDURES FOR OPERATION OF A HEALTH ROOM
The following procedures are suggested for use in implementing
Policy #472.4.
1. No medication, either over-the-counter or prescription should be administered without consent of the parent, guardian, or physician. Blanket approval for the administration of nonprescription drugs during the school year should not be granted.
2. A parent or guardian is to be contacted in the event of:
> temperature of 100 degrees or higher
> severe nausea or vomiting
> unusual or sensitive situation
> injury or illness which may require medical attention
> evidence of head lice
> special request by a parent or teacher
Conditions such as temperatures below 100 degrees, general complaints with no apparent symptoms, and minor injuries may not be deemed serious enough to require parental contact.
3. Health room workers may develop forms, including medical history forms, logs and/or tracking forms, and make any other documentation necessary for the proper management of the facility.
4. Parents and guardians should be informed of the existence of the room and the services provided.
