TRANSFERS AND PLACEMENT

The Jefferson County Board of Education is delegated the authority and responsibility for the assignment, transfer and continuance of all students within its jurisdiction between the ages of six and twenty-one in compliance with the CODE OF ALABAMA, 16-28-3.

The superintendent of education shall exercise the authority and responsibility of the Jefferson County Board of Education relative to the assignment, transfer and continuance of students within all its schools.

His decisions, including original and all other admissions to the school system, are subject to review and supervision by the Board.

The superintendent or a designee, the director of Student Services, is authorized to determine the particular school to be attended by each child applying for assignment or transfer. A child cannot be enrolled in a school until he/she has been assigned thereto by the superintendent or a designee of the superintendent.

All students entering Jefferson County Schools must present evidence of immunization or documentation showing they are exempt for medical or religious reasons.

The courts and health departments have the authority to place certain constraints on student transfers and placements.
