DISPOSAL OF USED TEXTBOOKS
It is the policy of the Jefferson County Board of Education to establish
an environmentally and
fiscally responsible method of selling and/or disposing of used out-of-adoption
textbooks.
Used textbooks at the end of their adoption cycle shall be declared
surplus property, unless new
textbooks are not purchased. The superintendent or his designee is
authorized to contact parties
interested in purchasing said textbooks, ascertain the total value
of said textbooks and to negotiate
the sale of any surplus textbooks. Money collected for the sale of
used textbooks shall be deposited
into the textbook account at the local board level in accordance with
state law. If it is ascertained
that any of the used textbooks have no value, arrangement will be made
with a recycling company
or charitable organization to dispose of them at no cost to the Jefferson
County Board of Education.
