OBTAINING AND DISTRIBUTING TEXTBOOKS

It is the policy of the Jefferson County Board of Education to establish an efficient method of obtaining and distributing textbooks.

In being responsive to the state superintendent, the county superintendent shall appoint a Director of Textbooks and Printing who, along with the staff of the Division of Curriculum and Instruction, shall be responsible for ordering books.

In the event that money is not available for the purchase of all needed books, the order of purchasing shall begin with the lower elementary grades. Previously adopted books shall be used in the other grades until money is available to purchase the new books.

Obtaining and distributing textbooks shall be the responsibility of the Director of Textbooks and Printing. Principals shall be responsible to said Director for textbooks received in their schools. Teachers shall be responsible to the principal and the principals shall be accountable to the Board for all books received by them. Students or their parent/ guardian shall be held responsible for all textbooks received by them in accordance with public school law (CODE OF ALABAMA, 16-36-32).
