COMP05ITION OF THE BOARD AND ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR MEMBERS

In compliance with state statutes (CODE OF ALABAMA, 16-8-1), the Jefferson County Board of Education shall be composed of five members elected by the qualified electors of Jefferson County. Board members must be persons of good moral character who have at least a fair elementary education and are of good standing in their respective communities. They should be known for their honesty, business ability, public spirit, and interest in public education.

The law requires that four of the five Board members reside within the Jefferson County school district. One Board member may reside in an area of Jefferson County served by a city school system. No member of the Jefferson County Board of Education may be an employee of the Board.
